These Terms of Service (“Terms”) describe the agreement between CodeWeekend — a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia, Canada — and you when you use this website, apply to our programs, mentor, donate, partner, or otherwise interact with CodeWeekend.
We have written these Terms in the plainest language we could manage. If anything is unclear, email hello@codeweekend.net and we will explain.
By using the site or participating in any CodeWeekend activity, you agree to these Terms.
1. Who we are
CodeWeekend is a non-profit society registered in British Columbia, Canada (2026). We run free, fully-live coding bootcamps — primarily for Afghan youth, with a 2026 cohort dedicated to women and girls in Afghanistan.
In these Terms, “CodeWeekend,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to that society. “You” refers to whoever is using the site or participating in our activities.
2. Eligibility
The CodeWeekend website is open to everyone. You can read pages, donate, and contact us regardless of where you live.
To apply to a CodeWeekend bootcamp, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old (with parent or guardian consent if you are under 18);
- Have access to a working internet connection or be eligible for our internet support program;
- Be available for the live class schedule of the cohort you apply to;
- Apply truthfully — we cannot help you if your application doesn’t reflect your actual situation.
Specific cohorts may have additional eligibility criteria (e.g. our 2026 cohort is for women and girls in Afghanistan). Those are stated on each program’s page.

3. What we offer
CodeWeekend offers:
- Cohort-based coding bootcamps taught live by working developers and supported by mentors. Specific durations, formats, and content vary by cohort and are described on each program page.
- Mentorship matching for accepted students.
- Hiring introductions to companies, when graduates opt in.
- Free, openly-published educational content on this website.
- A community of alumni, mentors, instructors, and partners.
We do not offer paid courses, certifications recognized by external accrediting bodies, or any guarantee of employment.
4. Application and admission
When you apply to a cohort:
- We will keep your application confidential and only share it with the people who need to evaluate it.
- Admissions decisions are at our sole discretion based on the criteria described on the program page. We do not provide individual feedback on rejections — this is so we can keep applications open and free without taxing the small staff who run the program.
- An offer of admission is conditional on completing any required onboarding steps (e.g. signing a learner agreement, parent consent for minors).
- If we accept you and you accept our offer, you agree to participate in good faith and follow the cohort’s code of conduct (Section 5).
We reserve the right to withdraw an offer of admission if information you provided in your application is materially false.
5. Code of conduct
CodeWeekend is a welcoming, inclusive learning community. To keep it that way, you agree that — when participating in any CodeWeekend channel (Slack, live sessions, 1:1s, events, this website’s commenting features if any) — you will:
- Treat everyone with respect, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, language, ability, or background.
- Not engage in harassment, abuse, threats, or intimidating behavior, in public or private channels.
- Respect cohort confidentiality — what is shared in the cohort stays in the cohort unless the person who shared it gives permission to share more widely.
- Use CodeWeekend resources for learning and community-building, not for spam, illegal activity, or attempts to compromise other participants’ security.
- Give credit where it is due when sharing other students’ or mentors’ work.
If you violate the code of conduct, we may take any action we judge appropriate — from a private warning, to removal from a cohort or community, to a permanent ban from CodeWeekend programs.
We make these calls case by case. The safety and dignity of our learners always comes first.
6. Use of the website
You agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the site;
- Reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or interfere with the operation of the site;
- Use the site to distribute malware, phishing content, or anything illegal;
- Misrepresent yourself as CodeWeekend or as someone affiliated with us.
The site is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it accurate, available, and secure, but we do not warrant that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.
7. Intellectual property
Our content
Everything published on this website — text, code samples, illustrations, logos, the design of the site itself — is © CodeWeekend except where another author or rights-holder is credited.
You can:
- Read, share, and link to anything on this site freely.
- Quote material in news articles, academic work, and similar contexts with appropriate attribution.
You cannot:
- Republish substantial portions of our material without permission;
- Use the CodeWeekend name or logo to imply endorsement, partnership, or affiliation that does not exist.
The codebase for this website is published under the MIT license at github.com/rapiditeration/codeweekend. The MIT license covers the code — not the brand, content, or specific design assets.
Your work in the program
If you participate in a CodeWeekend program:
- You retain ownership of the projects, code, and creative work you produce.
- You grant CodeWeekend a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your work for educational and promotional purposes (e.g. featuring your capstone in a Demo Day post or our annual report) — but only with your explicit consent for any specific public use.
- We will never use your work to compete with you, sell it, or pretend it is ours.
Curriculum materials
Curriculum materials we provide during the program are for your personal learning use. You are welcome to keep them after graduation. You agree not to redistribute paid third-party materials we may license for cohort use (e.g. Scrimba premium content during the period of that partnership) outside the cohort.
8. Donations and financial matters
- All donations are voluntary and are used for program operations consistent with our mission.
- Donations are non-refundable unless required by law or unless you can demonstrate the donation was made in error (e.g. duplicate transaction). We will work in good faith to resolve any donation issues — email donate@codeweekend.net.
- Tax receipts: Until our charitable status with the Canada Revenue Agency is finalized, we cannot issue official Canadian tax receipts. We will provide acknowledgment letters and, once charitable status is granted, retroactively issue receipts to eligible 2026 donors.
- For donors outside Canada: check with your local tax authority on the treatment of contributions to a Canadian non-profit society.
9. No employment guarantee
CodeWeekend’s mission includes preparing graduates for software development jobs, and we work hard at this. However:
- We do not guarantee employment, salary level, visa status, or any specific outcome.
- Hiring partners make their own hiring decisions independently.
- Geographic, political, and economic factors significantly affect outcomes — particularly for students inside Afghanistan or in other constrained contexts.
We are honest about the realistic range of outcomes on our stories page and our annual reports.
10. Termination
You can stop using the site or leave any cohort at any time. We will respect your decision and remove your access from cohort channels and any private resources promptly upon request.
We may terminate your access to the site, a cohort, or our community channels if:
- You violate these Terms or the code of conduct;
- We are legally required to;
- We end a specific service or program.
Termination of your access does not, by itself, mean we delete your data — see our Privacy Policy for retention rules and your right to request deletion.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- The site, the program content, and all related services are provided “as is” and “as available.”
- We make no warranties — express or implied — about merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the site or participation in any program.
- Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or your use of CodeWeekend is limited to the greater of (a) C$100, or (b) the amount you have donated to CodeWeekend in the 12 months preceding the claim. (Most of our learners donate nothing, because the program is free for them — this clause is mostly relevant to donors and partners.)
Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitations or exclusions above. In those jurisdictions, the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by local law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CodeWeekend, its directors, staff, instructors, mentors, and volunteers against claims arising from:
- Your violation of these Terms or the code of conduct;
- Your unlawful use of the site or program resources;
- Your infringement of someone else’s rights through the work you produce in the program.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable in British Columbia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
If a dispute arises between you and CodeWeekend, we will both make a good-faith attempt to resolve it informally first. If we cannot, the dispute will be resolved by the courts of British Columbia, Canada — except where mandatory consumer protection laws of your home jurisdiction provide you with the right to bring proceedings locally.
14. Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy) make up the full agreement between you and CodeWeekend regarding your use of the site and our programs.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the Last updated date at the top of this page.
- For substantive changes, post a notice on the site for at least 30 days.
- For changes that affect active program participants, send an email notification.
If you continue to use the site or participate in our programs after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
